People are always searching for a new way to secure a flat tummy. This has led to the explosion of trends which circulate each year, each promising you don’t have to alter your regular diet too much for amazing results! Yet, most of these are mere myths with no research to back them up.

Here are the facts.

MYTH: Drinking more water = weight loss!

There is a common belief that drinking more water suppresses appetite. However, studies have shown that evidence is limited connecting H2O consumption with losing a few kilos. Compared to food, liquids tend to pass through your system quicker meaning your satisfaction is short-term, and you will soon be feeling hungry again.

MYTH: Sweeteners = better than sugar!

Although artificial sweeteners have proven to be a lower calorie option, they may not be all they are hyped up to be as they actually increase your appetite. They can trigger sweet cravings as the brain has processed the sweetness but can’t account for the calories post-digestion causing our bodies to want more food to make up for the missing calories.

MYTH: Apple Cider Vinegar = insane health benefits!

The apple cider vinegar craze began in 2017, with claims its high acidic levels may be responsible for health benefits. However, there is not sufficient research linking apple cider vinegar to weight loss. Rather,House Call Doctor have found links connecting apple cider vinegar to teeth damage, lessening potassium levels and hurting your throat.

MYTH: Protein Powders = key to building muscle!

Gym trainers and body builders often claim protein powder is a necessity when wanting to build muscle and peel off the pounds. However, what they forget to mention is that this protein can be consumed using more healthy, organic products such as spinach or eggs. Just aim to incorporate more protein into your diet and you will be on your way to success!
